Ep. 86: Beyond the Tenue Track

Dr. Williams was a model graduate student but in the last two years of her doctoral program felt that academia would not be the space that allows her to use her gifts and talents in a way that felt good to her soul. She shares how she boldly set aside the internal and external expectations and followed the path to doing things that are unique to her skills. She now teaches people to do the same thing as the CEO of Beyond the Tenure Track and host of the podcast, Grad Schooled.

This week Dr. Fatimah shares her entrepreneurial journey along with insight and advice about creating your own lane outside of the academic industry. Her journey includes pivotal moments where she fully relied on her own decision making. She shares her strategies for effectively building negotiation and decision-making skills with us. A major proponent of her success comes from self-advocacy, which she uncovers ways in which we can practice our self-advocacy wherever we are in the grad school journey.

This episode is special because Dr. Fatimah not only shares her personal story but also her expertise in career readiness for advanced degree holders. For all those with entrepreneurial aspirations or those needing advice as they prepare for life after the degree be sure to give this episode a listen!
